The St. Clair River Sewer Authority waste water treatment plant, at 1244 Recor Road was
built in 1983. It is operated by the Sewer Authority, which consists of four members and a
chairperson, four of whom are from East China Township and one from China Township. The
plant has a design capacity of the 2.20 million gallons per day. The average daily flow is
currently 600,000 gallons..The waste water collection system consists of 26 miles of
sewer pipes and 9 lift stations through which the sewage flows to the treatment plant. As
the sewage passes through the plant the pollutants are removed by the various treatment
processes. These include screening, settling, biological, chemical precipitation and
disinfection before being returned to the river.
The effluent meets the stringent requirements of the United States Environmental
Protection Agency and the Michigan Department of Environmental Quality.
The citizens of the Charter Townships of East China and China can be proud of the
community cooperation required to construct and operate this facility.
The Sewer Plant is normally manned between 8:00 am and 4:00 p.m. seven days a week. If
